Gul Panag

Gul Panag is an Indian actress, model, and former Miss India who competed in the Miss Universe pageant. A social activist and philanthropist, Gul runs the Colonel Shamsher Singh Foundation, an NGO that works towards a variety of causes including gender equality, education and disaster management.

Gul Panag

Gul is one of the most active celebrities on social media and wanted to harness the power of the internet to mobilize 'youngistan' into volunteering action. With almost 1million followers on Twitter and as a 'youth icon' in India, Gul has a significant sphere of influence - particularly among the burgeoning age group of 18-25year olds.
The Objective

While interacting with a number of volunteers, NGO's, colleges, Schools and Corporates, Gul found that people were eager to get involved in social initiatives, but didn’t know how! She identified a need to organize, promote and ratify volunteering in India, via the formation of an online Volunteering platform, Social Outreach and Accreditation Program (SOAP).

SOAP is a program that brings together -
Individuals looking to volunteer and support a social Cause,
NGOs looking for volunteers, funds for their programs and a platform to announce the programs (projects) and
Corporates and Academic Institution looking to gain support for building on to their CSR and work on team building; along with bringing volunteering, funding, resources and CSR opportunities.
The Role

SOAP introduces the concept of CREDITS for the volunteering completed. The single-most unique point and advantage of being a SOAP Volunteer is the CREDITS system.  A volunteer can earn SOAP Credits on completion of each project / volunteering work. The Credits get accumulated as each project is completed. A certificate from SOAP can be printed for the CREDITS earned. The Credits earned via SOAP Volunteering will be recognized by registered Colleges, Schools and Corporates.

Innovaid’s role was to facilitate the development of a credible and effective credits system.  We did this by bringing together leaders from the social industry, including Tata Institute for Social Sciences and Nimala Niketin, Essar Group HR/CSR and technology experts.

Additionally, Innovaid worked alongside Essar Group CSR to facilitate a ‘pilot’ and also liaised with various national level NGOs to generate volunteering opportunities to get SOAP off the ground.

The Results

SOAP launched with a fully integrated and simplistic Credits system to enable volunteers to track and build credits for their volunteering efforts which could be utilised by the young people in applying for jobs and universities.
